“Filmtracts saved our little indie film. There was no way we could afford a lawyer on our budget, but Filmtracts’ contracts were solid and so easy to create!”
“The website is very easy and FRIENDLY to navigate. Contracts are already confusing so the simplicity of the website is also a relief . . . . As a writer/producer I've been given so many ridiculous ten plus page contracts, so I was also happy to see the contracts were short and to the point. Overall, I think you really hit a nerve for a needed tool for indie filmmakers.”
“Overall this seems like a fantastic app and very straightforward and easy to use. I can definitely see it being very useful to indie producers!”
“Filmtracts takes the guesswork out of complicated legalese by giving indie filmmakers exactly what they need: contracts for every stage of production without a huge fee. Being able to protect your creative work and have affordable access to a knowledgeable, experienced attorney is an invaluable asset for every production.”
Yes -- just choose the free subscription plan from the "Our Plans" section of the homepage of this site. You can then purchase credits that you can use to create, download and send contracts.
If you subscribe to our contract template service, you can use any of our contract templates to create an unlimited number of contracts for your film productions for as long as your subscription lasts. We also offer another subscription package that gives you access to those contract templates in addition to a monthly hour of legal services from an experienced entertainment lawyer.
The members of the Filmtracts staff who prepare and review the contract templates available on our site are lawyers. Also, one of our subscription packages allows you to sign up for one hour of legal services monthly from an entertainment attorney in addition to using our contract templates. However, as further detailed in our site’s terms and conditions, Filmtracts is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or any other services offered by an attorney.
Filmtracts was started by entertainment attorney and filmmaker Chris Edgar. As someone who’s been through the challenges and craziness of independent filmmaking for years, Chris knows a lot of people in the independent film space who need affordable access to contracts to live out their filmmaking dreams and aren’t able to pay thousands of dollars to attorneys, but also don’t want to just download random contracts from the internet and hope for the best. The goal of Filmtracts is to help those independent creatives.
You can buy a subscription package that includes one hour of legal consultation, monthly, from the Law Offices of Christopher R. Edgar. If you buy that package, and you have not used that law firm’s services before, you will have a 15-minute preliminary call with the firm to get clear on the nature of the work you want performed (e.g., drafting contracts, negotiating to get a deal done, discussing the next move for you to make in your project, etc.), and then the firm will proceed with the work, provided you agree to the terms and conditions governing the firm’s work.

The contract templates offered on Filmtracts are only intended for use by United States-based film productions. We are, of course, interested in eventually offering contracts for use by non-U.S. productions, but our operation hasn’t grown to that point yet.
Yes, the contracts on which the templates offered on Filmtracts are based have been used in many independent film productions.
